Never really share this end of our basement as it feels like it is a constantly flexing, adapting, shape shifting creative / play space.
But as we just got a real drum kit in addition to the electric one and piano, and I did a massive sort / clear out of games, toys and furniture, I thought I’d share some pictures.
It’s not the most considered part of the house but this space has to work really hard and honestly, FUN feels more important than PERFECT.
Image 1. I have now accepted that the kitchen table is where people want to get creative (including me!) so the desk has been replaced by an art trolley that can be moved to the kitchen table and then stored away again. The Ikea Kallax unit was also a freebie and has moved around loads. I’d love to get a lovely sideboard here but for now, it does the job. Artwork is an old tongue-in-cheek piece of mine and Anna’s from a Jiggery Pokery exhibition, inspired by Only Fools & Horses. Tombola was found on the street.
Image 2. The music corner with the piano and newly aquired acoustic drum kit. (see makeshift tea towel noise reducers 😖). Artwork, a mixture of my own and collected pieces.
Image 3. Mock up of the next planned pimp up. New blind, and revealing the boxed-in beam over the new rug so we can hang a sensory swing / rings / suspended gym / other fun stuff to complete the fun zone. We have a small (street find) table tennis table behind the electric drum kit too.
Need to paint the walls, reupholster or exchange the chairs by the window, clear out more crap…
What else could we cram into this space?! Surely we are missing something…
Starting off the year with a bang! Front cover and 12 page feature in @housebeautifuluk on me, my creative work and how my style has influenced the colours and design of our house. 🌈⚡️🎨
It was an absolute pleasure to host the team for a photo shoot and chat design, colour and all things in between.
