This interactive sensory workshop examined our attitudes to food waste by looking at the compost box as a treasure chest of potential fragrant and holistic materials. We investigated natural food waste, discovering extra potential uses within in natural beauty products. Through finding new ways to transform discarded plant material such as skins, seeds, peel, stalks, coffee grounds and hulls, a new and fun approach to sustainability was explored. Participants left with new ideas about what can be perceived as useful or precious.
We learnt about capturing fragrant and holistic properties through tincturing, hydrosols (water infusions), oil macerations and balms. After learning about the techniques and methods for preparing these base materials, each participant had the chance to prepare their own natural face balm or body balm. scrub or toner.
