Cook’s Canvas

A handmade kitchen apron that folds up into a shoulder bag to use for foraging or collecting cooking ingredients. Cook’s Canvas is constructed from organic linen and has cotton binding, an adjustable natural cow leather strap, adjustable natural sheepskin apron ties, solid brass fixtures and a hand whittled sycamore spoon–made by Barn the Spoon–to fasten it.

Decoration is built up by the user during the foraging, collecting and cooking processes by way of the natural colours found in fruits, vegetables, flowers, spices and plants. Many natural dyes can also be harnessed from items considered as food waste with surprising results. The aim is to encourage a curiosity for and exploration of the outdoors, creativity and resourcefulness within the kitchen and an awareness of the potential of food ‘waste’. The more the apron and bag are used, the greater the potential for adornment. Over time, your Cook’s Canvas becomes a symbol of your creative expression; a unique record of your discoveries and experiments.
